Standards Management System
Standards Management System is a website that contains a collection of tools and resources to support curriculum, instruction, and assessment of the four content areas of English/language arts, mathematics, science, and history/social science. The tools and resources are organized around the Six Effective Practices for high performing schools. These six practices include:
- Instructional Leadership
- Teaching and Learning
- Professional Development
- Culture and Communication
- Accountability and Assessment, and
- Community Partnerships
Within each of these six areas teachers and administrators will find a wealth of resources that provide invaluable support to address improved student achievement. Some of these tools and resources can be found on various other websites, however, the manner in which the resources are organized will save educators much critical time as access is fast and simple.
Examples of some of the tools included in the mathematics standards management system are:
- a Standards Browser tool that allows a teacher to sort standards by grade level, course, and/or strand. Descriptors of the standards are available as well as which standards are key and which are linked to the CAHSEE.
- a Student Record Sheet tool that can be customized to create an individual, class or group accounting form for monitoring progress with the standards and store digital files on your desktop. You can choose to create the record sheet in a PDF or Word document.
- a Scaffolding Matrix for English Learners within the Teaching and Learning area.
- Mathematics Support Modules K-12, within the Professional Development area, that include an online professional development tool that demonstrates successful practices in five topic areas via streaming video.
- tools for assessing and building school culture under the Culture and Communication area.
- links to state and national data and resources for the CAHSEE under the Assessment and Accountability area.
- parent and community connections to consider when planning for parent engagement, are found in the Community Partnerships area.
- an Observation Guide based on the 6 key questions from the math framework for planning, observing, and debriefing classroom visits is included in the Instructional Leadership area.
Training on how to access and use the SMS is available from the Siskiyou County Office of Education. For more information contact, Mike DeRoss, 842-8404.
