Assembly Bill 430/ Principal Training
Description
The legislative intent of AB 430 is to train principals and vice-principals
in:
1) school financial and personnel management
2) core academic standards
3) curriculum frameworks and instructional materials aligned to state standards
4) use of pupil assessment instruments, assessment data, and school management
technology
5) use of instructional technology to improve student performance
6) extension of knowledge, skills and abilities gained in administrative
preparation
These areas were arranged into three modules by the California Department of
Education:
1) Module 1: Instructional Leadership and Support of Student Instructional
Program
2) Module 2: Leadership and Management for Instructional Improvement
3) Module 3: Instructional Technology
The training design consists of an 80 hour core with an 80 hour practicum.
AB 430 has been approved by the California Commission of Teacher Credentialing
as meeting the requirements of the Tier 2 Administrative credential.
Services Available Through SCOE
The SCOE Curriculum and Instruction Department serves as a broker of information
regarding AB 430 requirements. The SCOE, as part of a Region 2 consortium,
works in conjunction with the Shasta County Office of Education, which is
an approved state provider of AB 430 training, to support principals and vice-principals
to obtain this training and, by doing so, to complete the requirements for
the Tier 2 credential.
